I've had a couple of very interesting days re-living the past through somebody else's eyes. A number of years ago Granddaddy B passed on to us a handwritten journal that a soldier in the Civil War wrote. We have no idea how he came by it. He was a history buff and knew we are, too, so I guess he felt we would safeguard it and see to it that it would eventually go to the right person, library, historic site, etc. The pages are yellowed, the binding is separating and it is very fragile, so I'm having to be very careful how I handle it. The only reason it has survived these last 145 or so years is because it has a hard cover and the pages have been relatively protected. I have been going through early photo albums that we made for our nephews and niece who are grown now and have their own families and I'm sharing with them early photos. I have also been working on my own journal.........and I got to thinking that one of the soldier's ancestors might be researching their family tree and would really like to have this original journal. I plan to include what WJM wrote in my next blog entries. Seeing the world through another's eyes, as they lived a life in another time, is a special experience..........especially if the writer is intuitive and has good insight into people and the circumstances around him or her. In additon to his family, I think this soldier would be interesting to history buffs and others, like me, who are really into journaling.
